As part of their 20 year redevelopment plan, Westminster City Council was determined to gain better understanding of the Church Street ward, which is know as one of the most deprived wards in the UK. Previous consultation indicated the ward had quite an active arts and culture sector but the council was lacking the right information and data to fully implement this into their redevelopment plans. Commissioned by Westminster City Council, AKOU was able to help gain a better understanding of this particular sector operating within the Church Street ward.
The council was lacking the right information and data to fully implement this into their redevelopment plans
Our unique consultation process enabled us to create a bespoke platform that allowed local businesses and organisations to map and measure the creative and cultural capital they generated and the social impact this had on the wider community.
The data gathered by our team helped secure £250,000 of funding in the form of micro grants to support arts and culture activities in the area and it was used by the Neighbourhood Forum and the council to influence both, the Neighbourhood Plan and the Master Plan. AKOU’s Mapify Church Street project gave both council and community a better understanding of the social infrastructure of the local area, and successfully helped eased tensions between council, developers and community.
